Some people spend their lives looking for certainty. Raha Moharrak has built hers around curiosity.
For Raha, curiosity is not simply about travelling to new places or collecting extraordinary experiences. It is about asking what might be possible, then finding the courage to discover the answer. Today, Raha is recognised as the first Saudi woman to climb Mount Everest and the first Saudi woman to complete the Seven Summits, the highest mountains on each continent. But reducing her story to a list of records misses what makes her journey so compelling.

From Design To The Mountains
Before becoming known around the world for mountaineering, Raha was a graphic designer.
Her professional background in visual communication gave her a creative way of seeing the world. She studied visual communication at the American University of Sharjah and developed a career in design and advertising. Creativity was her profession, while adventure gradually became something much deeper.
The turning point came with Mount Kilimanjaro.
What began as a personal challenge introduced Raha to a completely different version of herself. The mountain demanded physical preparation, patience and mental strength, but it also gave her something that could not easily be found in an office or design studio.

The Mountain That Changed Everything
Everest became the answer to that question.
When Raha first saw Mount Everest, she was still relatively new to mountaineering. Yet the mountain immediately captured her imagination. The idea of standing at the highest point on Earth began to move from an impossible dream into a serious goal.
Getting there was not simple.
There was training to complete, equipment to understand, logistics to manage and a family to convince. There were also social expectations that made the decision even more difficult. On May 18, 2013, that determination took her to the summit of Mount Everest.
Raha became the first Saudi woman to reach the summit and was also recognised as the youngest Arab woman to accomplish the feat at the time.
The achievement immediately placed her in the international spotlight.
But Everest was not the finish line.
It was only the beginning of another chapter.
Completing The Seven Summits
After Everest, Raha continued looking beyond the achievement that had already made history.
The Seven Summits challenge required her to climb the highest mountain on every continent. The journey included Kilimanjaro in Africa, Aconcagua in South America, Elbrus in Europe, Denali in North America, Vinson Massif in Antarctica, Mount Kosciuszko in Australia and Everest in Asia.
Completing these climbs required considerably more than physical fitness.
Mountaineering at this level involves preparation, financial commitment, logistics, weather management, teamwork and the ability to make decisions when conditions become unpredictable. It also requires accepting that success cannot always be controlled.
Raha eventually completed the Seven Summits, becoming the first Saudi woman to achieve the feat.
For many people, completing such a challenge would represent the ultimate destination. For Raha, it became another milestone in a much longer journey.
