Some careers begin with a clear plan. Others take shape when a person finally decides to take a chance on something they once believed was not meant for them.

For Erika Vigh, the turning point came later than she expected.

The Hungarian makeup artist and cosmetician had already built years of professional experience before she seriously considered entering makeup competitions. Although makeup had been part of her professional education from the beginning, Erika never thought of herself as someone who belonged on a competition stage. She believed her nervousness would become an obstacle.

Then, during the Covid period, she decided to challenge that belief.

What began as an experiment quickly became one of the most transformative chapters of her professional life. From Cosmetology to Professional Makeup

Erika’s relationship with beauty began long before her international competition success. After secondary school, she trained as a cosmetician, where makeup was already part of her professional education.

At a time when professional makeup schools, courses and learning resources were not as widely available, she relied heavily on self-education. She observed, experimented and continuously searched for opportunities to expand her knowledge.

Later, she completed a professional makeup and film makeup programme and continued developing her skills through advanced masterclasses with leading Ukrainian and Russian makeup artists.

That combination of education and experimentation eventually helped Erika develop a professional approach that connects skin knowledge with makeup artistry.

For her, the two disciplines have never been separate.

Understanding the skin helps her prepare the perfect canvas, while makeup teaches her to work with facial proportions, symmetry, light and optical correction. Together, these skills allow her to study a face carefully and enhance its strongest features rather than simply covering or changing them.

That philosophy remains central to her work today.

The Competition Decision That Changed Her Career

Erika’s first major competition experience was not the perfect beginning she might have imagined.

She entered a European Championship in a bridal category and faced an exceptionally strong international field. Instead of leaving with a victory, she finished outside the top positions.

The result was difficult for her emotionally. Yet it became one of the most important moments of her career.

Rather than allowing disappointment to end her competition journey, Erika used it as motivation. There was another competition ahead, and she had very little time to dwell on the result.

From that point, her approach changed.

She trained harder, refined her techniques and became increasingly comfortable with the pressure that had once frightened her. Competition after competition became an opportunity to discover where she could improve.

That mindset eventually produced results that would have seemed almost impossible when she first entered the stage.

From Hungarian Champion to International Recognition

Over the following years, Erika established herself as a serious competitor in the professional beauty industry.

Her achievements include becoming an overall Hungarian Champion and winning her category at the International Beauty Industry Awards in New York in consecutive years. Her international competition record also includes recognition connected to European and overseas competitions.

Industry records further identify Erika among the leading Hungarian professionals recognised for achievements in cosmetology and makeup competition. In 2023, she was listed as a Dubai World Championship winner, while her achievements also included Hungarian and International Beauty Industry Awards titles.

Her competition success was supported by mentorship. Dominique Roberts played an important role in preparing Erika for competitions as part of his competition team. For Erika, that guidance became an important part of a demanding period of professional growth.

Yet one of her most meaningful achievements has little to do with a medal.

For years, she watched professional makeup artists appear at Beauty Forum events from the audience. Eventually, she found herself returning to that same professional environment not as a spectator, but as an invited artist.

That full-circle moment represents what her journey is really about.

The person once watching from the audience had become the professional standing on the stage.

Dubai Became a New Beginning for Erika Vigh

Winning a world championship in Dubai was a major milestone for Erika, but ironically, Dubai also became the place where she had to start again.

After establishing herself in Hungary, she entered the Dubai beauty and fashion environment without assuming that her previous achievements would automatically open every door.

That required humility.

Instead of expecting recognition, Erika approached the new market as an opportunity to learn, collaborate and build relationships. Her work with the Fashion Factor team introduced her to a creative environment where fashion, beauty and international talent meet.

Dubai also challenged her professionally in unexpected ways.

The goal is not to create another person in the mirror. It is to help the client recognise the strongest version of herself.

For Erika, one of the most rewarding moments comes after the makeup is finished, when a client looks in the mirror, changes her posture, smiles and walks away with a new sense of confidence.

That emotional response is one of the reasons she continues to see makeup as much more than a beauty service.

A New Chapter Beyond Competitions

Today, Erika’s ambitions extend beyond collecting more titles.

While competition remains an important part of her professional identity, education is becoming increasingly important to her future.

She wants to bring together the different influences that have shaped her career, including her Hungarian background, international competition experience and techniques learned through Ukrainian and Russian masterclasses.

Her goal is to eventually share that knowledge through education and masterclasses across Dubai, the Middle East and wider international beauty markets.

This direction is already reflected in her professional activities in Hungary, where she has been invited to present her work at industry events. A 2025 professional event programme, for example, listed Erika for both a brow lamination presentation and a makeup demonstration, highlighting her position as a cosmetician and makeup artist with international competition achievements.

Recent Beauty Forum coverage has also continued to feature Erika’s professional perspective, including her thoughts on makeup, skincare and working in Dubai.

Success Means Starting Again

Perhaps the most powerful part of Erika’s story is that she does not see success as a final destination.

She describes herself as a late bloomer, but her career demonstrates why timing does not have to determine potential.

She once believed that competitions were not for her. She was nervous, uncertain and convinced that pressure would prevent her from performing at her best.

Instead, competitions became the environment in which she grew the most.

Today, the challenge looks different. She is no longer simply trying to prove that she can win. She is building a new professional identity in Dubai, entering new creative spaces and exploring how her knowledge can benefit other beauty professionals.

That requires the same qualities that helped her become a champion in the first place: discipline, curiosity, humility and the willingness to step outside her comfort zone.

Erika’s journey offers a simple but powerful message. A late start is not necessarily a disadvantage. Sometimes, it simply means that the right chapter has not begun yet.

For Erika, that chapter began with one competition and a decision to challenge a fear.

What followed was a journey from Hungary to international stages, from competition uncertainty to world championship recognition, and now from achievement to education and global growth.

And in Dubai, where she once stood as a world champion, Erika is proving that even reaching the top can be the beginning of something new.
