- Or Kahlon Turned Reinvention Into His Greatest Strength
Today, Or is the creator behind Pilates and Or, a movement concept that brings ballet and Pilates together through precision, strength, control and flow. His philosophy is simple but distinctive. Move like a dancer and train like an athlete.
Behind that polished idea is a journey shaped by years of demanding ballet training, international stages, physical discipline and the courage to transform a successful dance career into something new.
Or Kahlon Started With a Dream Bigger Than His Surroundings
Or did not begin his journey inside a famous international dance company.
He grew up in Israel and started pursuing ballet seriously as a teenager. At 15, he received a scholarship to attend the Thelma Yellin School of Arts in Tel Aviv.
Coming from a small town meant the journey required determination.
Dance demanded hours of practice, attention to detail and the willingness to repeat movements until they became almost instinctive.
His training later took him beyond Israel. He participated in summer training at Juilliard in New York and learned within environments influenced by some of the most respected names in contemporary dance.
Every stage strengthened his understanding of how the body moves.
Winning Brought Recognition but Not the End Goal
Or gained wider public attention after winning the first season of So You Think You Can Dance Israel.
For many young performers, winning a major television competition could feel like the destination.
For Or, it became another step.
He continued pursuing professional dance at an international level and eventually performed with Compañía Nacional de Danza in Spain and Nederlands Dans Theater.
These were demanding environments where technique alone was never enough.
Professional dancers need musicality, control, physical intelligence, stage presence and the ability to adapt quickly to choreography.
The experience would later influence the way Or approached Pilates.
He was not interested only in completing an exercise.
He wanted movement to have intention.
Pilates Was First a Tool for His Dancing Body
Pilates was already present during Or’s ballet career.
Like many professional dancers, he used the reformer for conditioning and rehabilitation.
Ballet places enormous demands on the body. Strength, flexibility, balance and control must coexist, while repetitive training can create physical strain.
Pilates offered Or another way to understand and support his body.
At first, it complemented dance.
Eventually, it became a passion of its own.
What interested him was not simply the equipment but the potential to combine Pilates principles with everything ballet had taught him about alignment, precision and movement quality.
That connection eventually became the foundation for Pilates and Or.
Leaving Performance Opened an Unexpected New Chapter
Transitioning away from a professional performance career can be difficult for dancers.
For years, identity can become closely connected to the stage.
Training schedules shape daily life. Performance creates purpose. The body becomes both an artistic instrument and a profession.
Or had to discover how everything he had learned could continue outside traditional performance.
Teaching became part of that answer.
People around him began seeking his knowledge of movement. What started in a home studio gradually developed into something larger.
Instead of leaving ballet behind, Or found a way to translate it.
He began using the Pilates reformer as a canvas for a different kind of choreography.
Ballet and Pilates Became One Movement Language
Pilates and Or is built around the meeting point between ballet and contemporary Pilates.
The method focuses on precision, control, alignment, strength and awareness while bringing musicality and continuous movement into reformer training.
This is where Or’s background becomes important.
He does not approach movement only through the perspective of a fitness instructor.
He sees details through the eyes of a dancer who spent years being corrected on posture, placement and technique.
His classes use classical Pilates ideas but also introduce ballet inspired movements, strength elements and athletic challenges.
The goal is not to turn every client into a ballet dancer.
It is to help people become more intelligent and intuitive movers.
His Personal Method Became a Growing Brand
What began as Or’s individual teaching style has grown into a wider movement platform.
Pilates and Or now includes physical studios in Santa Barbara, Boca Raton and Mexico City.
The concept has also expanded digitally, giving students the opportunity to train remotely.
That growth represents an important shift in Or’s journey.
He moved from performer to instructor and then from instructor to founder.
Building a studio requires very different skills from performing on stage.
There are teams to develop, clients to understand, standards to protect and a brand identity to maintain.
The movement may remain at the centre, but entrepreneurship becomes part of the work.
Teaching Teachers Became the Next Stage
Or’s work has expanded beyond teaching everyday clients.
Pilates and Or now provides teacher training, continuing education, workshops, masterclasses and mentorship for movement professionals.
This changes his influence.
Teaching one client can improve one person’s relationship with movement.
Training an instructor can eventually influence hundreds of people.
Or has taken his method internationally through workshops and educational experiences, including opportunities for Pilates professionals to study how ballet principles can be integrated into contemporary movement.
The focus on education suggests that he wants the method to become something larger than his own classes.
His Ballet Past Still Appears in Every Detail
Even after building a new professional identity, Or has not separated himself from ballet.
It remains visible in the way he teaches.
The long spine, controlled transitions, turnout, balance and attention to how one movement connects with the next all reflect years of dance training.
His social content sometimes brings followers directly into exercises inspired by the training he experienced when he was younger.
That history gives his method authenticity.
He is not adding ballet simply because it looks elegant.
He is drawing from a discipline that shaped much of his life.
Or Kahlon Turned Reinvention Into His Greatest Strength
Or Kahlon’s journey shows that changing direction does not always mean starting again.
Sometimes the strongest reinvention happens when everything learned in one chapter becomes the foundation for the next.
Ballet gave Or discipline.
Professional performance gave him precision.
Competition gave him visibility.
Pilates gave him another way to understand movement.
Teaching gave him a new purpose.
Entrepreneurship allowed those elements to grow into Pilates and Or.
Today, his work extends from studios and digital classes to teacher education and international workshops.
Yet the philosophy behind it remains connected to the same body that once trained for the stage.
Or is still working with movement.
The difference is that he is now creating the language himself.
His story reminds people that a career does not have to remain trapped inside its original definition.
A dancer can become an educator.
An educator can become a founder.
And years of discipline can eventually become something entirely personal.
For Or Kahlon, ballet was never left behind.
It simply evolved into a new way of moving.
