From Plastic Surgery to Specialised Hair Restoration

Dr. Vekris graduated from the Medical School of the University of Ioannina in Greece and pursued specialist training in General Surgery, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Microsurgery and Burn Management.

His surgical education included training at the University Hospital of Ioannina and the Latseio Burns Centre at Thriasio General Hospital in Elefsina, Greece. Following his specialisation, he served at the University Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns of the University Hospital of Ioannina, developing extensive experience in reconstructive procedures and microsurgical techniques.

His growing interest in the surgical treatment of alopecia subsequently led him to further specialist training abroad. Among other institutions, he trained under Dr. J. C. Kim at KNU University Hospital in South Korea and continued his professional development in London and San Francisco.

These international experiences contributed to his expertise in Follicular Unit Excision (FUE), a technique involving the individual extraction and transplantation of follicular units. Over the years, FUE has become a central focus of his clinical, scientific and educational work.

Under his scientific direction, Advanced Hair Clinics has established a presence in Greece and Cyprus while attracting patients from international markets. According to figures published by the organisation, Dr. Vekris and his medical teams have collectively performed more than 30,000 hair transplantation procedures, treating patients from approximately 80 countries.

His clinical expertise includes conventional FUE transplantation, Long Hair FUE, Unshaven FUE, eyebrow and beard transplantation, as well as complex reconstructive procedures involving scars and the correction of previously unsuccessful hair transplants.

A key element of his surgical approach is the careful assessment and management of the donor area, alongside natural hairline design and appropriate follicular unit distribution. Patient age, hair characteristics, the pattern of hair loss and its potential future progression are all considered when developing an individual treatment plan.

His appointment recognised his longstanding contribution to hair restoration surgery and his active involvement in international physician education and scientific collaboration.
