Transforming Africa’s Healthcare and Beauty Industry

Mhlongo, the journey from a rural South African community to becoming a medical doctor, entrepreneur, and healthcare business leader has been shaped by personal loss, determination, faith, and a desire to help others.

Today, Dr Lungile is the Founder and CEO of Numa Global Group, an expanding African healthcare and wellness business group. Her work connects medical aesthetics, skincare manufacturing, preventive healthcare, wellness infrastructure, and property investment.
Yet behind her growing business portfolio is a woman who believes that success becomes meaningful when it creates opportunities for others.
From Rural Beginnings to an Extraordinary Dream
Dr Lungile grew up in KwaNgcolosi, a rural community outside Durban, South Africa, as the youngest of ten children.
Her childhood was shaped by family values, education, faith, and hard work. Although her surroundings were modest, her upbringing gave her a strong sense of responsibility and compassion.
At seventeen, her life changed when her father passed away.
The loss was heartbreaking, but it also inspired her decision to pursue medicine. She wanted to help people experiencing difficult moments and provide the care that families desperately need during times of uncertainty.
Another tragedy followed when she lost her mother during her first year of medical school.
Despite these painful experiences, Dr Lungile continued her education, determined to honour her parents through her achievements.
How Personal Struggles Inspired a Medical Career
Dr Lungile qualified as a medical doctor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, earning her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
Her interest in aesthetic medicine developed through an unexpected personal experience.
During her twenties, she struggled with adult acne. The experience helped her understand how skin problems can affect confidence, emotional well-being, and everyday life.
She realised that treating skin concerns could involve more than improving appearance. It could also help people feel comfortable and confident in themselves.
Determined to deepen her expertise, she completed further studies in aesthetic medicine, earning a Diploma and an Advanced Diploma, graduating cum laude in the latter.
These experiences eventually inspired her entrepreneurial journey.
Building Numa Medical Aesthetics Into a Growing Brand
In 2018, Dr Lungile founded Numa Medical Aesthetics with a mission to make safe, effective, non-surgical aesthetic treatments more accessible.
What began in KwaZulu-Natal gradually expanded into Gauteng and Eswatini, attracting patients from different parts of Africa.
For Dr Lungile, the business was never simply about beauty treatments.
She wanted patients to feel heard, supported, and confident throughout their healthcare experiences.
As the company developed, she began recognising opportunities beyond individual consultations.
Rather than remaining focused on one medical practice, she started exploring how healthcare services, product manufacturing, and business infrastructure could work together.
This thinking eventually helped shape the wider Numa Global Group.
Numaskin and the Vision for African Manufacturing
One of Dr Lungile’s significant entrepreneurial milestones has been developing Numaskin, a South African skincare and personal-care brand supported by manufacturing operations in Durban.
The move represented an important transition from using skincare products in clinical practice to participating in their development and production.
For Dr Lungile, local manufacturing is closely connected to economic opportunity.
She believes African businesses should participate more actively in creating, manufacturing, and distributing products rather than depending entirely on international suppliers.
Through Numaskin, she hopes to strengthen African ownership within the skincare industry while creating employment and supporting local expertise.
Her ambitions also include developing international partnerships and exploring opportunities in markets such as the Middle East.
Dr Lungile F. Mhlongo Expanding Beyond Medicine Into Business Leadership
Dr Lungile’s entrepreneurial interests now extend into preventive healthcare, wellness infrastructure, and property investment.
These ventures reflect her belief that healthcare businesses require strong systems, sustainable assets, and long-term planning.
Building across different industries has challenged her to develop skills beyond medicine, including business management, investment strategy, and organisational leadership.
She understands that entrepreneurship brings uncertainty, difficult decisions, and considerable responsibility.
However, she sees these challenges as opportunities for personal and professional development.
Her approach combines medical knowledge with a broader ambition to establish internationally competitive African businesses capable of generating lasting economic and social value.
Recognition That Reflects Her Growing Influence
Dr Lungile’s achievements have attracted recognition across healthcare, entrepreneurship, and leadership platforms.
Her reported honours include the Forty Under 40 Africa Award, recognition at the KZN Top Businesswomen Awards, and the Top Health and Wellness Brand distinction at the Top 16 Youth-Owned Brands Awards.
She has also received recognition through the She Reigns Africa Awards and the 50 Under 50 Trailblazers initiative in Dubai.
Her professional journey has included participation in the Forbes Africa Under 30 Summit Showcase in Botswana and a Forbes Africa feature.
She also reports inclusion on the Forbes Over 30 Under 30 2026 list.
Although these milestones reflect her growing public profile, Dr Lungile considers them reminders of responsibility rather than the ultimate measure of success.
Creating Opportunities Through Mentorship and Community Service
Beyond her business achievements, Dr Lungile is deeply committed to helping young people discover their potential.
Through the Angels are made Foundation, she supports initiatives involving preventive healthcare, skin health, education, and mentorship.
Her community involvement is particularly meaningful because she understands the challenges facing young people from underserved backgrounds.
She regularly participates in speaking engagements, leadership conversations, mentorship programmes, and entrepreneurial forums.
As a radio contributor, she has also shared information about healthcare, wellness, entrepreneurship, and personal development.
For Dr Lungile, representation matters.
She believes that seeing someone from a similar background achieve meaningful success can encourage young people to pursue ambitions they once considered impossible.
Faith, Resilience and the Meaning of True Success
Despite her professional achievements, Dr Lungile continues to identify faith as the foundation of her personal journey.
The loss of both parents at a young age taught her resilience, while entrepreneurship taught her patience, discipline, and accountability.
Her philosophy is reflected in one powerful message:
“True success is not simply about how far we rise, but about what we build along the way and who is able to rise because we did.”
This belief influences how she approaches leadership, mentorship, and business development.
She wants her achievements to create pathways for others, particularly young professionals who need guidance, encouragement, and practical opportunities.
A Global Vision for African Healthcare Innovation
Looking ahead, Dr Lungile wants Numa Global Group to become a recognised African leader in healthcare, medical aesthetics, wellness, and skincare manufacturing.
Her plans include expanding production capabilities, strengthening distribution networks, developing healthcare infrastructure, and exploring international partnerships.
She also hopes to contribute to global discussions surrounding African entrepreneurship, women’s leadership, and sustainable economic development.
However, her greatest ambition extends beyond commercial expansion.
She wants to establish institutions that continue creating opportunities for future generations.
From a young girl growing up in KwaNgcolosi to a doctor building an expanding healthcare enterprise, Dr Lungile’s story demonstrates how determination can transform adversity into opportunity.
Her journey reminds aspiring entrepreneurs that their beginnings need not determine their destinations.
For Dr Lungile, the most meaningful legacy will not simply be the businesses she creates, but the people who find the courage to build something greater because of them.
