From Teaching English to Academic Leadership
For Dr. Zeina Hojeij, leadership did not begin with a senior title or an executive position. It began in the classroom.
Her professional journey started as an English language teacher, where she discovered that education was about far more than delivering lessons. It was about understanding people, encouraging confidence, creating opportunities, and helping individuals discover what they were capable of achieving.
That early experience became the foundation for a career that would gradually expand across teaching, research, higher education, academic leadership, mentoring, and professional coaching.
Today, Zeina brings together these different experiences to help people and organizations approach leadership with greater clarity, purpose, and intention. Her work reflects a career shaped by continuous learning and a willingness to evolve whenever a new opportunity for growth appeared.
Her academic journey has also been international. She studied in Lebanon, continued her education in the United States, and later built much of her professional career in the United Arab Emirates. She earned an EdD in Educational Leadership and Administration from Saint Louis University, following earlier studies in Applied Linguistics and English Language and Literature.
This international experience has influenced the way she understands leadership. Working across different educational and cultural environments has taught her that effective leadership cannot always be reduced to a single formula. It requires awareness, adaptability, listening, and the ability to understand different perspectives.
A Career Built Around Education and Growth
Over the years, Zeina progressed from teaching into increasingly senior roles within higher education. Her professional work has included academic programs, research, institutional development, mentoring, outreach, and leadership.
At Zayed University, she has contributed across education and interdisciplinary academic environments while maintaining a strong connection to teaching and research. Her academic interests include educational leadership, teaching and learning, technology in education, interdisciplinary education, and language education.
Her research record reflects the changing nature of education and leadership. Her recent work has explored subjects including artificial intelligence in higher education, leadership development, cultural sensitivity, educational innovation, and the experiences of educational leaders.
Her research has also examined the role of leadership in diverse educational environments. This is particularly relevant in the UAE, where universities and organizations operate within highly multicultural settings.
For Zeina, research is not simply an academic exercise. It is another way of understanding the challenges people and institutions face and finding practical ways to respond to them.
Her work has resulted in international publications, conference presentations, professional service, peer review, and research collaborations. She has also been involved in initiatives designed to strengthen research culture and professional development within academic environments.
When Leadership Became More Personal
Although academia gave Zeina a strong foundation in leadership, her journey eventually led her toward another discipline that focuses directly on the individual.
Coaching became a natural extension of her professional experience.
After completing advanced coach training with Erickson Coaching International, she began developing her work as a leadership and executive coach. The transition made sense because much of what she had been doing throughout her career involved helping people reflect, develop, make decisions, overcome challenges, and move toward their potential.
Coaching allowed her to take those experiences into a more personal setting.
Today, Zeina works toward supporting professionals, academic leaders, and women navigating growth, transition, and increasingly complex responsibilities. Her approach is centered on helping people think more clearly rather than simply telling them what decisions to make.
That distinction is important.
In a professional world where success is often measured through titles, promotions, productivity, and visible achievements, Zeina believes there is also value in pausing to understand what success actually means to the individual.
The Power of Clarity Over Certainty
One of the strongest ideas running through Zeina’s philosophy is that clarity can be more valuable than certainty.
Her own career has not followed a perfectly predictable path. There have been moments when she had to change direction, begin again, reconsider priorities, and redefine what success meant.
Instead of viewing these moments as interruptions, she now sees them as part of the journey.
Her experience has shaped a simple but powerful perspective. People do not always need to know exactly what will happen next. What they need is enough clarity about their values, priorities, strengths, and purpose to make the next meaningful decision.
This philosophy sits at the heart of her developing leadership platform, Leading with Clarity.
The platform brings together coaching, leadership development, writing, speaking, and practical conversations about professional growth. It represents an evolution of the work Zeina has been doing for more than two decades and gives her an opportunity to reach beyond traditional academic settings.
A Voice for Women and Emerging Leaders
Another important part of Zeina’s current direction is her interest in supporting women and professionals who are stepping into new levels of responsibility.
Leadership transitions can be challenging. Moving from being an individual contributor to managing people, entering an academic leadership role, becoming responsible for institutional decisions, or navigating a major career change often requires more than technical competence.
It requires a change in mindset.
Zeina’s coaching work focuses on creating space for people to reflect on those transitions and understand the leader they want to become.
Her perspective is particularly valuable because it is grounded in both academic knowledge and lived professional experience. She understands the demands of institutions while also recognizing the human realities behind leadership decisions.
Her work encourages professionals to consider not only how they can achieve more, but also how they can lead in ways that remain aligned with their values.
Dr. Zeina Hojeij Building a Broader Conversation Around Leadership
Zeina’s work extends beyond coaching sessions and academic research.
Through writing, speaking, and platforms such as The Education Conversation and Leading with Clarity, she continues to create opportunities for deeper discussions about education, leadership, development, and professional success.
Her goal is not simply to provide motivational messages. Instead, she aims to encourage thoughtful conversations that help people question assumptions, expand their perspective, and approach challenges with greater awareness.
Her experience as an educator and researcher gives these conversations an evidence based foundation, while her coaching work brings a more personal dimension to them.
This combination allows her to connect academic ideas with real leadership experiences.
It also reflects how the definition of leadership is changing. Modern leaders are increasingly expected to navigate uncertainty, technological transformation, cultural diversity, changing workplace expectations, and complex human relationships.
In such an environment, technical expertise alone is not enough.
Leaders also need self awareness, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and the ability to create clarity when circumstances remain uncertain.
The Next Chapter Is About Impact
As Zeina looks toward the future, her ambitions are becoming broader but also more purposeful.
She plans to continue contributing to higher education and research while expanding her international presence as a leadership and executive coach, speaker, author, and advisor.
Her long term vision includes developing Leading with Clarity into a recognizable platform that brings together coaching, leadership development, speaking, writing, and practical resources for professionals and organizations.
She is particularly interested in working with leaders navigating transition, complexity, and growth.
At the center of this vision is a shift in how success is measured.
After years of building an accomplished academic and professional career, Zeina is less interested in collecting titles and more interested in creating meaningful influence.
For her, the next chapter is about the people she can help, the institutions she can strengthen, and the conversations she can inspire.
That perspective may be the most important lesson of her journey.
Career growth does not always mean moving upward in a straight line. Sometimes it means expanding sideways, learning something new, reinventing yourself, and bringing everything you have learned into a new purpose.
From an English language classroom to higher education leadership, from research to coaching, and from academic work to thought leadership, Zeina’s journey demonstrates the value of allowing a career to evolve.
Her story is ultimately not about one destination.
It is about continuing to learn, remaining open to reinvention, and using experience to create impact that lasts.
