From The Skies To The World Of Books
For Marwa Gouhar, writing was never simply a career choice. It became a way of understanding people, places, fears and the strange questions that often remain unanswered in everyday life.
Before becoming known as an Egyptian writer and novelist, Marwa spent years working as a flight attendant. The profession exposed her to different people, cultures and experiences, while also giving her a perspective that would later become valuable in her creative work. Her relationship with travel and storytelling continued even as her professional path gradually moved toward literature.
Her journey into writing developed alongside her work in journalism and digital publishing. She wrote for Al Dostor newspaper and Ain magazine and continued contributing to several online platforms. At the same time, she explored another creative passion by studying film directing and participating in short and documentary films.
That combination of journalism, travel, cinema and fiction helped shape a writer with an instinct for atmosphere and storytelling.
A Career Built On Curiosity And Courage
Marwa entered the publishing world with Hat Mel Akher in 2013, followed by The Flight Attendant 13 in 2015. These early works reflected different sides of her experience and helped establish her voice as an author willing to explore personal observations and unusual perspectives.
Her major literary breakthrough came with It Happens at Night in the Locked Room in 2018. The novel became particularly successful among readers of horror and suspense and remained on bestseller lists for years.
The success of the novel was important for another reason. It showed that Marwa could create stories that went beyond simple fear. Her work often combines suspense, mystery, human emotions and questions about what people are capable of when they find themselves in unfamiliar situations.
For readers, that combination became part of the experience of reading Marwa.
A Growing Library Of Mystery And Horror
Following the success of her 2018 novel, Marwa continued building a distinctive literary universe.
She published Manzil Al Taawisa in 2019, The Black Sleep in 2020 and Al Dawoud Building in 2021. She then explored historical drama and mystery through The Curse of Sultan’s Palace in 2023 before returning to darker territory with The Cellar of the Baron’s Palace in 2024.
In 2025, she released Al Qurban, another work that strengthened her connection with readers who enjoy suspense, supernatural themes and unsettling mysteries.
Her latest novel, Night Movers, also known as Abnaa El Leil, arrived in 2026 and represented another interesting step in her creative journey.
Rather than simply repeating the formula that had already worked for her, Marwa used the new novel to explore a different kind of question. What if a person could completely change their identity and begin another life?
The idea gave her an opportunity to move beyond familiar horror territory and explore identity, dissatisfaction, escape and the consequences of trying to leave one life behind.
Night Movers Shows A Different Side Of Marwa
Night Movers is particularly significant because Marwa has described the project as a creative adventure outside the horror genre that usually defines much of her work.
The idea was inspired by a report about an organization in Japan capable of helping people completely change their lives, including their names, appearances and circumstances. Marwa transformed that unusual concept into a fictional story built around three connected yet separate narratives.
The result reflects one of the most interesting qualities of her writing career. Marwa does not appear interested in remaining inside a single creative box.
Although horror remains an important part of her identity as a writer, her work demonstrates an ongoing willingness to experiment with historical drama, fantasy, suspense and psychological themes.
That creative flexibility has helped keep her work fresh for readers who have followed her career from one release to another.
Al Qurban Leaves Readers Waiting For More
Marwa’s 2025 novel Al Qurban has also created anticipation for what comes next. Strong reader interest has led to plans for a second part of the story, which is expected to be released soon.
The demand for another installment shows the relationship Marwa has developed with her audience. Her readers do not simply finish a story and move on. They become invested in the characters, mysteries and unanswered questions that she creates.
That connection is especially valuable in a publishing environment where readers have more entertainment choices than ever before.
Marwa has built her audience through consistency, but also through her ability to leave readers curious about what could happen next.
From The Page To The Screen
The next stage of Marwa’s career is moving beyond books.
She has completed her first television series screenplay, based on one of her acclaimed works and inspired by a true story. The project is expected to reach audiences on screen soon, marking an important milestone in her development as a storyteller.
Her background in film directing makes this transition particularly natural. Marwa has already studied directing and participated in short and documentary films, giving her an understanding of visual storytelling that can complement her literary experience.
For a novelist, seeing a story move from the imagination and pages of a book into a television production represents an entirely different challenge.
Characters must become visual. Atmosphere must be created through performances and locations. Suspense has to work not only through words but also through sound, timing and images.
Marwa’s experience across different creative forms gives her an interesting foundation for this new chapter.
Expanding Into Radio Drama
Television is not the only screen and audio space Marwa is exploring.
She has also completed the radio drama series Sirr Al Dar, or The Secret of the House, set in the Gulf. The story follows a family living in a villa where a series of supernatural events slowly begin to expose a much larger mystery.
As the family investigates what is happening around them, hidden secrets gradually come to the surface. The format allows Marwa to use one of her strongest storytelling skills, creating tension through what listeners hear and what remains unexplained.
She is currently working on another radio drama series that combines mystery, suspense and horror, suggesting that her creative ambitions are continuing to expand across different forms of storytelling.
A Writer Who Keeps Reinventing Herself
What makes Marwa’s journey particularly interesting is not simply the number of books she has published. It is the evolution behind them.
She moved from aviation to journalism, from journalism to books, from books toward film and now into television and radio drama. Each stage has added another layer to her understanding of storytelling.
Her years as a flight attendant gave her experiences with people and places. Journalism strengthened her observation and communication skills. Film studies introduced her to visual storytelling. Literature gave her the freedom to build entire worlds from imagination.
Together, these experiences have shaped a career that continues to develop.
The Story Is Still Being Written
Marwa Gouhar’s journey is far from finished.
With the second part of Al Qurban expected soon, Night Movers introducing readers to a different side of her creativity, a television project moving toward the screen and new radio work already underway, her next chapter promises to be as active as the years that came before it.
Her story also carries a message that extends beyond literature. Career paths do not always move in straight lines. Sometimes the experience gained in one profession becomes the foundation for success in another.
For Marwa, the skies, the newsroom, the cinema and the pages of her novels have all become part of the same journey.
She has built a career by following curiosity, embracing change and turning unusual ideas into stories that invite readers to keep turning the page.
And perhaps that is the most compelling part of her journey. The woman who once spent her working life traveling between destinations now creates destinations of her own, taking readers into rooms, houses, palaces and worlds where mystery waits around every corner.
