A Love for Food That Started at Home
For Thomas Leatherbarrow, the journey into professional cooking did not begin in a prestigious restaurant or an elite culinary school. It began at home, surrounded by family, food and the simple experience of cooking with his mother.

His grandparents also played an important role in shaping his early relationship with food through their fish and chip shop. Those experiences gave Thomas an understanding that food was about much more than ingredients and technique. It was also about people, memories, hospitality and creating moments that others could enjoy.
That early connection eventually became a serious ambition. Thomas entered the hospitality industry at a young age and began building his experience across spa and hotel resorts before moving into some of London’s most demanding professional kitchens.
His career would later take him into Michelin starred environments, where he had the opportunity to learn from highly respected chefs including Jason Atherton, Tom Aikens and Gordon Ramsay.
For Thomas, those kitchens were not simply places to work. They were environments where discipline, precision and continuous learning became part of his professional identity.
Learning From the Best and Finding His Own Direction
Working alongside established culinary names exposed Thomas to different approaches to food, leadership and creativity. His experience in high pressure kitchens helped him understand what it takes to deliver consistently at a high level.
Yet his ambition was never limited to becoming another chef working behind the scenes.
Thomas wanted to create something of his own.
His journey eventually moved beyond traditional kitchen roles and into entrepreneurship, culinary development, private catering and hospitality management. His earlier experience in pastry and confectionery also helped him develop a strong interest in product innovation and creative food development.
One of the lessons that has stayed with him throughout this journey is simple but powerful.
“There is always something more to learn and someone greater to learn from.”
That belief explains much of Thomas’s approach today. Despite the recognition he has achieved, he continues to view hospitality as an industry where growth comes through curiosity, experience and the willingness to keep learning.
Building TLC Gourmet Into a Global Hospitality Business
The next major chapter of Thomas’s career came through TLC Gourmet, part of his wider business interests under The Leatherbarrow Corporation.
Since its development, TLC Gourmet has grown beyond the idea of a traditional catering company. The business focuses on luxury catering, hospitality and bespoke culinary experiences, bringing together food, service, creativity and operational expertise.
The company has developed an international outlook, with operations and interests extending across markets including the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Egypt and North America.
That international direction reflects Thomas’s wider philosophy. He is not simply interested in serving food in different countries. He wants to build a hospitality business capable of adapting to different cultures while maintaining high standards.
His work also demonstrates an understanding that luxury hospitality is about the complete experience. The quality of food matters, but so do presentation, service, organisation, consistency and the ability to understand what clients expect.
This approach has helped TLC Gourmet work across private events, weddings, corporate hospitality and other high level culinary experiences.
Recognition That Reflects Years of Hard Work
Thomas’s career has brought a long list of professional achievements. His recognition includes European entrepreneur awards in both the 30 under 30 and 40 under 40 categories, along with recognition from the British Culinary Federation for Hospitality Professional of the Year.
He has also earned 14 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 8 bronze medals through culinary competitions and professional achievements.
His specialist work in chocolate and pastry has been another important part of his career, including recognition as World Chocolate Innovation Chef of the Year.
In 2026, Thomas was also recognised by Ambassadors of Taste for the Global Gastronomy with a Gold Medal. His role as the United Kingdom representative for the organisation places him within an international network focused on gastronomy, culinary heritage and collaboration.
These achievements are significant, but they also tell a larger story. Thomas has moved through multiple sides of the hospitality industry, from hands on kitchen work to culinary leadership and business development.
Thomas Leatherbarrow Turning Experience Into Opportunity for Others
One of the most interesting aspects of Thomas’s journey is that his ambitions now extend beyond personal success.
He has increasingly focused on sharing knowledge and creating opportunities for people entering the hospitality industry.
TLC Gourmet has worked with educational institutions to give aspiring chefs practical exposure to professional culinary environments. In one such collaboration, students from The City of Liverpool College were given the opportunity to work on a high end dining experience under Thomas’s guidance.
For someone who began his own career at a young age, helping the next generation gain confidence and experience carries a particular meaning.
Thomas understands that hospitality can be demanding. Long hours, intense kitchens and constant pressure can challenge even talented professionals. His own journey through these environments has given him a realistic understanding of both the sacrifices and rewards involved.
Rather than keeping that experience to himself, he wants to turn it into something useful for others.
A New Chapter Beyond the Traditional Culinary Map
Today, Thomas is looking toward another important stage of growth.
His focus is on expanding his luxury catering and hospitality business through the Southern Hemisphere, continuing the international direction that has become central to his work.
At the same time, 2026 has already been an active year for TLC Gourmet, with international events, global exhibitions, hospitality conferences and a busy UK and European weddings and events season forming part of the company’s wider activity.
This expansion represents more than geographical growth. It is an opportunity for Thomas to introduce his approach to hospitality to new audiences while learning from new markets himself.
That balance between teaching and learning remains central to his outlook.
Creating a Legacy That Goes Beyond the Plate
For many chefs, success is measured through dishes, restaurants, awards or the number of guests served. Thomas’s ambitions suggest a broader definition.
He wants to leave a legacy for the industry.
That means developing businesses that can grow sustainably, supporting culinary talent and helping preserve the knowledge that makes hospitality such a diverse and valuable profession.
His philosophy is increasingly focused on building something that can continue beyond his own career. Food may be the starting point, but education, opportunity and international collaboration are becoming equally important parts of the picture.
The result is a career that has moved from a family kitchen to Michelin environments, from pastry development to entrepreneurship, and from individual achievement to international hospitality leadership.
Looking Ahead With the Same Hunger to Learn
Thomas Leatherbarrow’s story is still being written.
There are already awards, international experience and successful businesses behind him, but his ambitions point toward an even larger future. With TLC Gourmet continuing to expand and his attention turning toward the Southern Hemisphere, the next chapter could take his culinary vision into new markets and new partnerships.
What makes his journey particularly inspiring is that the foundation has remained surprisingly simple. A love of food, a willingness to work hard and an understanding that there is always another lesson to learn.
For Thomas, the kitchen was never just a workplace. It became a classroom, a business school and eventually a platform from which he could influence the wider hospitality industry.
His goal now is not only to create memorable culinary experiences, but to build something that lasts.
A career can be measured by what someone achieves. A legacy is measured by what they leave behind for others.
Thomas is now working toward the second.
