From Interior Architecture to Creating Experiences

Some careers are carefully planned from the beginning. Others evolve through unexpected opportunities, personal experiences, and the courage to keep moving forward. Dareen Abi Hana’s journey belongs to the second category.

An interior architect by background, Dareen entered the events industry with a natural understanding of design, space, proportion, color, and visual storytelling. But she soon discovered that events offered something beyond aesthetics. They created emotions, connections, and memories that could stay with people long after an occasion ended.

That realization became an important turning point in her professional life.

Today, Dareen is the Founder and CEO of Sama Events and Glee by Sama, a managerial partner at Fractal9, and an educator in the events field. She has spent more than 13 years working across weddings, luxury celebrations, corporate events, and large scale productions in Lebanon and the region.

Her career reflects a simple idea that has continued to shape her work: an event is not simply something people attend. It is something people experience.

The Year That Changed Everything

For Dareen, 2013 was a defining year for both her personal and professional life.

Her daughter Sama was born, and in that same year, Sama Events was established.

The decision to name the company after her daughter was deeply personal. From the beginning, motherhood and entrepreneurship became two journeys developing side by side. There was no perfect business roadmap waiting for her. Instead, Dareen learned by doing.

She learned through challenging projects, demanding clients, unexpected problems, long hours, creative decisions, and moments when she had to find solutions quickly.

Building an events company requires much more than creativity. It requires organization, patience, negotiation, leadership, financial awareness, communication, and the ability to remain calm when circumstances change.

Her interior architecture background gave her a strong creative foundation, but the events industry taught her how to transform that creativity into experiences that work on every level.

Over time, Sama Events became more than a business. It became a reflection of Dareen’s own professional evolution.

When Design Became About Emotion

Architecture taught Dareen how to understand physical environments. Events taught her how those environments could make people feel.

That difference became central to her approach.

A beautifully designed venue can impress guests, but a thoughtfully created experience can stay in their memories. For Dareen, the strongest events are therefore not simply about decoration or visual appeal. They are about understanding the people inside the space and creating an atmosphere that feels intentional.

Her work across weddings, luxury celebrations, corporate gatherings, and major productions has allowed her to work with different audiences and expectations.

Each project brings its own challenges. Each client has a different story. Each event requires a different balance between creativity and execution.

This is where her multidisciplinary background has become an advantage.

She can look at an event through the eyes of a designer, entrepreneur, manager, and storyteller.

Her philosophy can be summed up in one line:

“Do not just create something beautiful. Create something that stays.”

For Dareen, that means creating an experience that continues to have meaning after the lights go out and the guests leave.

Building a Career Beyond One Title

One of the most interesting aspects of Dareen’s journey is that she has never allowed herself to be limited by one professional identity.

Her work now connects several worlds.

Through Sama Events, she continues to develop experiences and strengthen the company’s presence in the events industry. Through Glee by Sama, she has expanded her entrepreneurial vision into another creative direction. Her involvement with Fractal9 keeps her connected to the architectural and design side of her professional foundation.

Education has added another important dimension.

Rather than keeping years of industry knowledge within her own businesses, Dareen chose to turn that experience into something that could benefit others.

This led to the creation of the Event Mastery Diploma at the Lebanese American University Academy of Continuing Education. The program has progressed into an accredited learning initiative aligned with IPMA standards, with its first cohort reaching graduation.

For Dareen, this represents more than another professional achievement. It reflects a change in how she views success.

The knowledge gained through years of real world experience can now become knowledge that helps prepare future event professionals.

Dareen Abi Hana Turning Experience Into Education

Teaching has introduced Dareen to a completely different side of the events industry.

In business, the focus is often on delivering results. In education, the responsibility is to help someone else understand how to reach those results.

That requires patience and the willingness to explain not only what works, but why it works.

Her educational work at LAU has also created opportunities to connect students with professionals and real industry experiences. Publicly shared LAU activities show Dareen leading learning around event design and bringing practical industry voices into the classroom.

This approach reflects her belief that event education should not remain purely theoretical.

The industry is fast moving and unpredictable. Students need to understand the realities behind successful productions, from planning and psychology to communication, teamwork, pressure management, and execution.

For Dareen, education has therefore become another way of creating experiences, this time for the next generation of professionals.

Learning While Continuing to Lead

Even after more than a decade in the industry, Dareen has not stopped being a student herself.

She is currently pursuing an Executive MBA at LAU, adding another layer to a career already built around creativity and entrepreneurship.

This decision reveals something important about her leadership philosophy.

Experience can create confidence, but continued learning creates perspective.

As her career has expanded from design into events, business, leadership, and education, the need to understand strategy and organizational growth has become equally important.

Her Executive MBA represents that next step.

It is not about leaving creativity behind. Instead, it is about connecting creativity with stronger business thinking, leadership, and long term planning.

That combination could become increasingly important as Dareen looks beyond individual projects and toward building a broader professional ecosystem.

The Personal Meaning Behind the Business

Behind the entrepreneur is a mother who has experienced the challenge of growing a company while raising her daughter.

The connection between Sama and Sama Events makes her story particularly personal.

What began in 2013 as two new beginnings has developed into two very different journeys. Her daughter has grown, while the company has evolved through more than a decade of projects, challenges, relationships, lessons, and achievements.

Dareen does not measure success simply through the scale of an event or the number of guests.

For her, the deeper achievement is building something that has grown alongside her.

That perspective makes her story relatable beyond the events industry. It speaks to anyone who has ever tried to build a career while navigating the responsibilities and changes of personal life.

A New Chapter Built Around Impact

Today, Dareen is less interested in simply doing more. Her focus is on building deeper.

She wants Sama Events to continue expanding beyond Lebanon while maintaining a clear identity and avoiding the pressure to simply follow industry trends.

At the same time, she wants education to remain part of her future. Her goal is to transform practical experience into meaningful knowledge that can help young professionals understand the realities of the events world.

Her work across entrepreneurship, events, design, education, and business strategy is gradually becoming an ecosystem rather than a collection of separate roles.

That may ultimately become the most defining part of her journey.

Dareen is not trying to fit her career into one title. She is allowing every chapter to strengthen the next.

Redefining What Success Can Look Like

Dareen’s journey offers an important lesson about career growth.

Success does not always have to follow a straight line.

A person can begin in architecture, discover events, become an entrepreneur, become an educator, return to learning, and continue searching for new possibilities without abandoning the person they were before.

As Dareen puts it, reinvention is not starting over.

It is taking everything you have learned and giving it a new purpose.

Her next chapter appears to be heading in that direction. With Sama Events continuing its growth, education becoming an increasingly important part of her work, and her Executive MBA adding a strategic dimension to her leadership, Dareen is building toward something larger than individual achievements.

She is building a legacy based on creativity, knowledge, resilience, and meaningful experiences.

And perhaps that is the most powerful lesson from her story.

You do not have to choose only one dream.

You can allow your career to evolve, learn from every chapter, and continue asking the most important question of all: what can I build next?
