A Fitness Journey With A Deeper Purpose

For Latoya Ricketts, fitness was never simply about exercise, body transformation or looking good. More than 16 years in the industry have changed the way she understands health, strength and the relationship women have with their bodies.

Today, her work is shaped by something much more personal. She wants women, especially mothers, to feel strong again, not only physically but also mentally and emotionally.

Her story began in London, where sport and physical education became an important part of her childhood. At a young age, she developed a natural love for movement and competition. But an experience within her family gave that passion a deeper meaning.

Latoya watched her aunt suffer a heart attack that resulted in brain damage and life changing disabilities. Seeing the effect that a serious health event could have on a person’s quality of life made her understand that health was about far more than appearance.

That experience stayed with her as she pursued Sports Science and eventually built a professional career in personal training, group fitness, online coaching and fitness modelling.

Over the years, fitness became not just her profession but a way to help people create healthier and more confident lives.

From London To A New Life In Dubai

Moving from London to Dubai became another defining chapter in Latoya’s journey.

She arrived independently and began creating a life and career in a new environment. The move demanded courage, flexibility and a willingness to adapt, but it also opened doors to opportunities that would shape her professional identity.

Latoya has now spent 12 years in Dubai, building experience across different sides of the fitness industry.

Her career has included working with leading fitness studios, personal training clients from different backgrounds, modelling for activewear brands and appearing as an on camera fitness coach reaching audiences internationally.

She has also taught with Dubai based fitness studios including Platform Studios and FitNGlam.

Each role added another layer to her understanding of what people really need from fitness. For some, it may begin with a physical goal. For others, it can become a journey towards confidence, discipline and a better relationship with themselves.

That understanding has become increasingly important to Latoya as her own life has changed.

Motherhood Changed The Way She Sees Fitness

Motherhood became one of the most transformative experiences of Latoya’s life.

Becoming a mother meant entering a completely different phase where priorities, responsibilities and expectations changed. At the same time, she faced her own health challenges, forcing her to experience something she had previously helped other people navigate.

For the first time, she understood what it felt like to start again.

The experience changed her approach to coaching. Fitness was no longer something she viewed only through the lens of training plans, weight loss or aesthetics. It became a tool for helping women reconnect with themselves.

Many mothers spend years putting their families first. Their own goals can move into the background as they focus on children, work and everyday responsibilities.

Latoya understands that journey personally.

Her message is simple but powerful: a woman does not disappear when she becomes a mother. She continues to evolve.

“Strength is not about never struggling. It is about choosing to keep moving forward when life changes around you.”

That philosophy now sits at the heart of her work.

The Mama Method Became Personal

One of Latoya’s proudest professional achievements came when she created and filmed her own online pre and postnatal fitness platform, The Mama Method.

What made the project particularly meaningful was that she developed it while she was pregnant herself.

Rather than approaching motherhood only as a coach observing from the outside, Latoya was living through the experience while creating something designed to support other women.

The Mama Method brought together her professional knowledge and her personal transition into motherhood.

It represented a shift in the way she wanted to serve women. Instead of focusing only on short term physical results, she wanted to create support that recognised the different stages women experience before and after having children.

Her own journey gave her a deeper understanding of the importance of patience, realistic expectations and rebuilding confidence gradually.

Learning That Starting Again Is Not Failure

Latoya’s story is also about learning to stop chasing an old version of yourself.

Health challenges, motherhood, career changes and personal setbacks taught her that life does not always follow a predictable path. The person someone was before a major life event may not be the person they become afterwards.

Instead of seeing that change as something negative, Latoya has learned to embrace the process.

Her biggest lesson is that people can always rebuild.

That belief is particularly relevant to women who feel that they have fallen behind or lost a sense of identity while caring for others.

Latoya wants them to understand that rebuilding does not mean returning to exactly who they were before. It can mean discovering a stronger version of themselves.

This perspective makes her approach to fitness more personal. A workout can strengthen the body, but the confidence developed through consistency can influence how a woman approaches the rest of her life.

More Than A Personal Training Career

 Latoya Ricketts

Over the years, Latoya has achieved milestones that reflect the range of her career.

Her early achievements include winning regional and national netball competitions. Later, she became one of the faces of Fitness First and travelled internationally for fitness modelling shoots.

She has worked as an online and live streaming fitness coach, taught in established Dubai studios, worked with activewear brands and developed a successful career as a personal trainer.

Yet the achievements she values most are not necessarily the ones that appear on a professional résumé.

For Latoya, the greatest reward comes from seeing someone become stronger, healthier or more confident because of the support she provided.

That human impact has become one of the strongest reasons she continues to evolve her work.

Latoya Ricketts Building A Brand For Women Who Want More

Looking ahead, Latoya wants to build something bigger than one to one training.

Her long term vision is to develop a recognised fitness and wellness brand that reaches women through online coaching, programmes, communities and platforms.

Motherhood, recovery and rebuilding strength are expected to remain important parts of that vision.

She wants her work to reach women at different stages of life and remind them that prioritising themselves is not selfish.

For Latoya, taking care of yourself can be part of becoming a better version of yourself for both your own life and the people around you.

Her ambition is also deeply personal. She wants to create a career that gives her freedom and independence while allowing her to remain present for her family.

That balance represents a new definition of success.

A Stronger Future Starts With Rebuilding

After more than 16 years in fitness, Latoya Ricketts is entering a stage of her career where experience and personal understanding come together.

Her story has moved from loving sport in London to building a career in Dubai, from fitness modelling and coaching to creating a platform for mothers, and from helping people change their bodies to helping women change how they see themselves.

The struggles she has experienced have not weakened her purpose. They have helped define it.

Latoya believes motherhood, illness, setbacks and unexpected changes do not mean a woman has lost herself. Sometimes, they become the beginning of discovering who she is capable of becoming.

That message sits at the centre of the brand she hopes to build.

For every woman who feels she is starting again, Latoya’s journey offers a reminder that rebuilding is not moving backwards. It can be the first step towards a stronger, more confident and more meaningful future.
