A Creative Journey That Began With Curiosity
For Charbel Karam, interior design was never simply about choosing beautiful furniture, colors, or materials. His connection with design began much earlier, through a natural curiosity about the spaces surrounding him and the way small changes could completely transform how people experience a place.

Even as a young person, Karam found himself observing proportions, details, atmosphere, and the emotional effect of interiors. A personal experience redesigning a space in his own home became an important turning point. He saw how changing an environment could influence comfort, mood, and interaction.
That realization shaped his understanding of design. A room was no longer just a physical space. It could become an experience, a reflection of personality, and even a form of storytelling.
What began as curiosity gradually developed into a professional calling.
Today, Karam is building a creative career that brings together interior design, art, architecture, television, and communication.
From Africa to Beirut, A Career Built Through Experience
Before establishing himself in Beirut, Charbel Karam spent four years working in Monrovia, Liberia. His experience in Africa became an important chapter in his professional development, giving him exposure to a different environment, culture, and way of approaching creative work.
International experiences often challenge designers to look beyond familiar references, and Karam’s time in Liberia helped broaden his perspective. It became part of a journey that eventually brought him back to Beirut, where he decided to establish his own design studio.
Returning to Lebanon was more than a geographical move. It represented a new stage of independence.
With his own studio, Karam was able to explore ideas that reflected his personal artistic identity. His work began moving beyond conventional decoration toward concepts that combine contemporary creativity with elegance and cultural awareness.
His educational background also gave him a valuable advantage. With a double major in interior design and business marketing, he developed an understanding of both creative development and the business side of building a professional brand.
That combination continues to influence the way he approaches his career today.
The Green Wall Concept That Shaped His Identity
One of the earliest chapters of Karam’s professional career came through landscape design, particularly green walls.
Rather than viewing green walls simply as arrangements of plants, he approached them as artistic compositions. Form, rhythm, texture, proportion, and visual balance became part of the creative process.
This approach helped him develop something that every designer eventually searches for: a recognizable signature.
For Karam, the challenge was not simply to produce attractive work. It was to create something that people could identify as his.
That question became central to his development as a designer.
How can a project feel original while remaining sophisticated? How can different projects have their own personalities while still carrying the designer’s identity? And how can creativity continue to evolve without losing its foundation?
These questions encouraged Karam to experiment and develop a design language that is contemporary, expressive, and connected to the cultural character of Arab society.
Designing Between Innovation and Arab Elegance

Karam’s creative philosophy is built around balance.
His approach does not reject tradition in favor of modernity, nor does it rely entirely on traditional aesthetics. Instead, he looks for ways to bring contemporary ideas into environments while respecting the cultural expectations and refined tastes of the region.
That balance has become increasingly important in Middle Eastern design, where modern lifestyles often exist alongside deep architectural and cultural traditions.
For Karam, the strongest interiors are not necessarily the loudest ones. They are spaces where creativity, functionality, emotion, and identity work together.
This philosophy allows him to explore bold concepts without sacrificing harmony.
His interests outside interior design also contribute to that creative perspective. Sculpting, painting, and swimming are among his hobbies, with art providing another channel through which he explores form, expression, and imagination.
His creative world therefore extends beyond the walls of a studio.
From Designer to Television Personality
Karam’s work has also moved into the world of television.
As an interior designer and TV host, he has appeared on Tele Liban’s decoration segment on the Ahla Sabah morning show, produced by Patricia Samaha.
Television has given him another platform through which to communicate his knowledge and ideas about design. Instead of speaking only to clients or working behind the scenes, he can bring design conversations directly into people’s homes.
This transition from designer to media personality reflects his broader ambition.
Karam is increasingly interested in the relationship between design and communication. He sees media not simply as another professional opportunity, but as a way to make creative ideas more accessible and meaningful to a wider audience.
His current direction is therefore moving toward an intersection of interior design, architecture, art, and media.
Working With Recognized Regional and International Brands
Throughout his career, Karam has had opportunities to collaborate with a diverse range of established brands and organizations.
His collaborations have included UNICEF Beirut, Middle East Airlines, IRIS Beirut, Aishti, Samer Khouzami, Antoine Saliba World of Jewelry, Miele, Lebanon of Tomorrow, and SMEG.
These collaborations reflect the versatility of his creative profile.
Working across different sectors requires a designer to understand that every brand has its own language. A luxury jewelry house communicates differently from an airline, an international organization, a fashion personality, or a premium home appliance brand.
For Karam, these experiences have provided opportunities to adapt his creativity while maintaining his own identity.
Recognition Across Borders
Karam’s journey has also brought professional recognition.
Among the achievements he highlights are the Emirates Finest Business Awards 2024, where he was recognized as Best Visionary Artist and Interior Designer, and the AFDAL Awards 2025, where he received recognition as Best Interior Designer.
Another significant milestone came in July 2025, when he was selected to represent Lebanon in Moscow for a special project connected with Rossotrudnichestvo and the Moscow City Tourism Committee.
For Karam, international opportunities are particularly meaningful because they allow creative work to become a form of cultural representation.
His Catrinas Cyprus project in 2025 also holds a special place in his journey. It represented his first project outside the Arab world and challenged him to work within a different cultural and linguistic environment.
Rather than seeing cultural differences as limitations, Karam viewed them as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Resilience Behind the Creative Success
Behind the awards, television appearances, collaborations, and design projects is a personal philosophy shaped by resilience.
Karam believes that professional and personal growth rarely follow a straight path. People lose opportunities, relationships change, plans fail, and sometimes an individual has to rebuild an identity they once thought was permanent.
For him, these experiences are not simply setbacks.
They become lessons.
His belief that resilience is an art reflects the way he approaches his career. Disappointment can become perspective. Pressure can become strength. Experience can become character.
That mindset is especially relevant to creative careers, where rejection and uncertainty are often part of the process.
Coloring Outside the Lines
One phrase captures much of Karam’s creative philosophy: do not be afraid to color outside the lines.
For him, creativity requires freedom. Following every established rule can produce technically correct work, but questioning those rules can lead to something memorable.
This idea also reflects his approach to life.
Karam encourages people to embrace individuality instead of constantly trying to fit into expectations created by others. In his view, life is similar to design. It is an unfinished project that changes through experience, experimentation, and self discovery.
That philosophy is becoming an important part of his public identity.
A New Chapter Across Design, Art and Media
Today, Charbel Karam is looking beyond the traditional definition of an interior designer.
His ambition is to build a distinctive creative identity at the intersection of interior design, architecture, art, and media. He wants his projects to do more than look impressive. He wants them to carry emotion, identity, cultural meaning, and a sense of narrative.
That ambition could shape the next chapter of his career.
From four years in Africa to returning to Beirut, from green walls to complete interiors, from design studios to television, and from regional collaborations to international projects, Karam’s journey has been defined by continuous evolution.
His story ultimately reflects a simple idea: creativity becomes powerful when it is personal.
And for Charbel Karam, the next masterpiece may not only be a space he designs. It may be the creative identity he continues to build for himself.
