Changing How UAE Buys and Sells Used Goods
For Richard Paul Pajer, entrepreneurship is not the result of following one predictable career path. His professional journey has moved through very different worlds, from professional sports in Germany to financial markets at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and eventually into entrepreneurship in the United Arab Emirates. Each chapter brought a different lesson, and together they helped shape the mindset he now brings to UMONDA LLC.

Having called the UAE home for more than two decades, Richard has developed a strong connection with the country’s energetic business environment. He has experienced firsthand how quickly technology, consumer habits and business models can change in the UAE. Today, he is using that experience to build a marketplace designed around a simple everyday need: making it easier for people to buy and sell pre-owned items.
His story is therefore not simply about launching another online platform. It is about taking lessons from different stages of life and turning them into an idea designed to solve practical problems.
From Professional Sports to the World of Business
Richard’s journey began in Germany, where professional sports became an important part of his early life. Competing at a high level required more than physical ability. It demanded discipline, consistency, resilience and the willingness to keep improving even when progress was difficult.
One of the defining achievements of his sporting career was winning a silver medal at a Karate World Cup. Yet when Richard speaks about the achievements that matter most to him, his perspective goes beyond professional recognition.
For him, his three healthy children represent his biggest achievement.
That perspective says a great deal about the values that have remained important throughout his career. Professional success may create milestones, but personal fulfilment gives those milestones meaning.
The lessons he learned through sport also continued into the next stage of his professional life. The ability to remain focused under pressure and make decisions when circumstances are uncertain would later become valuable when he entered the financial world.
Learning About Markets at Frankfurt Stock Exchange
Richard later moved into finance and worked as a trader at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. This experience introduced him to a completely different kind of competition.
In financial markets, decisions have consequences, timing matters and uncertainty is unavoidable. Working in such an environment helped Richard develop an understanding of markets, risk and business behaviour.
The transition from sports to trading may appear unusual at first, but both environments require many of the same qualities. Preparation, discipline, emotional control and the ability to make decisions under pressure can be important in both.
For Richard, these experiences became part of a much larger professional education. Rather than staying within one industry, he continued exploring new opportunities and developing a broader understanding of how people, markets and businesses operate.
A New Chapter in the UAE
Moving to the UAE created another major turning point.
Over more than 20 years in the country, Richard witnessed an environment increasingly shaped by entrepreneurship, innovation and rapid technological development. The UAE became more than a place where he worked. It became a country with which he developed a lasting personal and professional connection.
The experience also influenced how he viewed opportunities.
Instead of seeing entrepreneurship simply as the creation of a company, Richard began looking at it as an opportunity to solve problems in practical ways. His background in sports had taught him persistence. Finance had taught him about markets and risk. Life in the UAE exposed him to an environment where ambitious ideas could develop quickly.
Those experiences eventually came together in UMONDA.
Building UMONDA Around an Everyday Problem

UMONDA was created with a straightforward objective: to make buying and selling pre-owned items easier.
The secondhand market has existed for generations, but the process of selling used goods online can still involve several frustrations. Sellers may have to create listings, communicate with potential buyers, arrange meetings and organise transportation. Buyers may face uncertainty around collection, delivery and transaction arrangements.
Richard saw an opportunity to simplify that experience.
UMONDA is designed as a UAE-based online marketplace where buyers and sellers can connect while many of the logistical difficulties are handled through the platform. Its broader model focuses on making the journey from listing an item to getting it into the buyer’s hands more convenient.
The idea reflects Richard’s belief that technology should not simply add another digital layer to an existing process. It should make the process itself easier.
Where AI Meets Convenience
One of Richard’s ambitions for UMONDA is to combine marketplace technology with artificial intelligence and logistics.
AI can play a role in reducing some of the effort involved in creating listings, connecting buyers with sellers and improving the efficiency of transactions. Instead of making users navigate complicated processes, the goal is to use technology quietly in the background to make the experience more intuitive.
Logistics is equally important to the concept.
A major difficulty with pre-owned goods is that an item may be located far from the person interested in buying it. Richard’s vision is to connect the marketplace experience with transportation, allowing items to move from sellers to buyers without requiring the two parties to organise everything independently.
The bigger ambition is clear: buying or selling something pre-owned should feel almost as simple as ordering something online.
As Richard puts it, “Time is the most valuable commodity I know.”
That belief is closely connected to the way he approaches UMONDA. If technology can save people time, remove unnecessary steps and make transactions more convenient, then it can create value beyond the product itself.

There is also a wider idea behind the marketplace.
Pre-owned products do not necessarily lose their value simply because their first owner no longer needs them. One person’s unwanted item can become another person’s useful purchase.
This creates an opportunity for a more practical approach to consumption, where products can continue moving between people rather than immediately becoming waste.
For Richard, UMONDA is therefore about more than buying and selling. It is about creating a system in which products can find new owners while users receive a simpler experience.
The concept also fits naturally with the UAE’s fast-moving digital marketplace, where consumers increasingly expect convenience and technology to work together.
A Career Built on Adaptability
What makes Richard’s journey distinctive is the variety of experiences behind his entrepreneurial vision.
Professional sports taught him discipline. Financial trading exposed him to markets and risk. More than two decades in the UAE gave him a close understanding of an ambitious business environment. Entrepreneurship has now given him the opportunity to bring these experiences together.
Rather than treating his earlier careers as unrelated chapters, Richard has carried lessons from each one into the next.
That ability to adapt has become central to his approach.
He believes that challenges can also become opportunities to build something better. It is a mindset that can be traced back to his sporting years, reinforced through financial markets and now expressed through UMONDA.
Looking Ahead With a Clear Purpose
Richard’s ambitions for UMONDA extend beyond establishing another marketplace. His goal is to develop a leading platform for pre-owned goods while continuing to improve the experience for both buyers and sellers.
The focus remains on simplicity, technology and convenience.
As the platform evolves, Richard wants UMONDA to become a place where users do not have to worry about many of the traditional complications associated with secondhand transactions. The combination of marketplace technology, AI and logistics is intended to create an experience that feels straightforward from beginning to end.
His entrepreneurial journey also carries a personal message for people who may be waiting for the perfect moment to begin.
Richard believes people should not be afraid to start when the path ahead is uncertain. Experiences do not always reveal their value immediately. Sometimes the lessons learned in one career become the foundation for an entirely different opportunity years later.
His own journey is an example of that philosophy.
From the discipline of professional sport to the pressure of financial markets and finally to building a technology-driven marketplace in the UAE, Richard has continued moving forward rather than staying inside one definition of success.
His philosophy is equally simple: “Rich is not the person that has everything. You are rich, when you are happy with what you’ve got.”
That perspective gives his entrepreneurial ambitions a more personal dimension. UMONDA may be designed to transform how people buy and sell pre-owned goods, but behind the platform is a founder who sees business as an opportunity to create something useful, meaningful and lasting.
For Richard, the next chapter is about turning that vision into reality and giving people a simpler way to give products a second life.
